For years, a corner of the GTA 6 fandom has been convinced that Leonida is hiding Rockstar’s version of Walt Disney World. Rockstar has now pushed back on that idea, though not in the airtight way some headlines have suggested.
On 29 September, Paul MacPherson, senior vice president of environment art at Rockstar Games, explained how the studio chose locations for Grand Theft Auto VI’s fictional state. When he was asked about central Florida and the theme parks most people associate with the region, his answer was polite and carefully worded. It also wasn’t a no.
“So, while we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is geared to getting that full Florida experience!” MacPherson said.
That “may” is doing a lot of work.
Read the fine print before you mourn
This is an official Rockstar statement, so it counts for more than anything fans have pieced together so far. But read closely. MacPherson didn’t say GTA 6 has no amusement parks, fairgrounds or tourist attractions. He was talking about whether famous real-world places get direct fictional counterparts.
What the comment points to is narrower. Don’t expect Rockstar to have rebuilt every famous Florida destination inside Leonida, and don’t count on a one-to-one parody of central Florida’s best-known theme parks. Anyone telling you GTA 6 definitely contains zero theme parks is going further than MacPherson’s comments support.
He also explained how the studio makes these calls. Leonida is inspired by Florida, but Rockstar isn’t copying the state one location at a time.
“We have to constantly evaluate the diversity of landscapes, towns, structures, landmarks, vistas, plant species, rock formations and everything else before we work with design and narrative to distil a list down that best works with and serves the game’s needs,” MacPherson said.
So the map gets built around what the game needs, not around a tourism brochure. That’s the right priority, even if it disappoints people who were hoping to rob a mouse-eared castle.
Where the Fairyland theory came from
The Disney-style destination theory started well before MacPherson said anything. After the major 2022 GTA VI development leak, fans picked through the material and found references that some read as hints of a location tied to “Fairyland.” Community discussion also pointed to a label reading “Fairyland Forest Puzzle.”
To be clear about what that was: leaked development material read through fan interpretation. None of it was an official announcement that Rockstar was making a Walt Disney World parody.
The theory stuck around anyway. Fans tried to rebuild Leonida’s geography from unofficial map reconstructions and later from promotional material. Reddit threads kept coming back to the same argument: Florida’s theme-park culture is too big a part of the state for Rockstar to leave out.
Even Lester weighed in
Jay Klaitz, who played Lester Crest in Grand Theft Auto V, added fuel during an April interview. He was speaking hypothetically and wasn’t revealing anything about Rockstar’s plans. He said it would be “interesting” if the studio tried the idea, and he jokingly pitched a name.
“Psycho Park or whatever,” Klaitz said.
That was a former cast member riffing along with fan curiosity. It wasn’t evidence about the finished map, and next to an on-the-record answer from Rockstar’s own environment art lead, it carries much less weight.
Some questions are still open. MacPherson’s remarks don’t rule out every kind of theme park or attraction in Leonida. They do make a direct copy of Orlando’s famous resorts look much less likely.
You’ll be able to check for yourself soon enough. Rockstar currently lists Grand Theft Auto VI for release on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
