Katana Inu (official site), the free-to-play anime-inspired PvP action game from ChainVision Games, enters Early Access today, October 22, 2026. The team also confirmed it has an agreement in place to bring the game to PlayStation 5 for its full launch. No date has been given for the PS5 version.
The studio calls Early Access the final major step before full launch. It isn’t giving a date for that launch either. According to the team, “The full release will follow when the timing is right and we have the right strategic partner on board to take Katana Inu KATA $0.00004794 ▲ +28.9% to the next level.” Until then, the studio says it is moving step by step to make sure everything runs smoothly while it works toward gold status.
Launch day 1v1s and rewards
To open Early Access, Katana Inu is holding its first community session. It will include live gameplay, a look at the team’s vision for the game and a preview of what’s planned next.
The first 1v1 battles start at around 5 PM CET, with 50 USD to 100 USD in rewards up for grabs. More competitive sessions will follow over the next few days. Players can sign up at register.katanainu.com for upcoming 1v1 and 3v3 sessions and earn up to 100 USD in gameplay rewards. Registration was limited to an 18-hour window after the announcement.
What the game plays like
Katana Inu is a third-person PvP action game set in an anime-inspired world. Fights are built around swordplay and fast movement, with grappling hooks, double jumps, and character and weapon classes that each have their own abilities.
There are four main modes:
- 1v1 duels
- 3v3 team battles
- Free-for-all matches
- Battle royale
A tutorial mode covers the basics for new players. The Steam listing says the game is not pay-to-win.
The game comes in two versions. The Steam client is the Web2 version: fully playable without a wallet, with no NFT or blockchain requirements. The Katana Inu Launcher is the Web3 version, where players can use NFTs and play-to-earn features tied to the KATA token. NFT skins are cosmetic only and are never required to play. Characters may differ slightly between the Web2 and Web3 versions.
On PC, the game needs Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel i5 4th generation or AMD FX 6300 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a GTX 1050 Ti graphics card. Console and mobile versions are listed as coming next, and PlayStation 5 is now confirmed for the full launch.
Five years of development
Katana Inu set the October 22 Early Access date earlier this month. At the time, the team said the game was “gearing up for its Full Launch and is preparing to bring publishing and strategic partners on board for a global release.” No partners have been named so far. The Steam listing from ChainVision Games, which is both developer and publisher, also shows Early Access starting on October 22, with the full game’s release date still listed as “Coming soon.”
Early Access comes after five years of development. The game has been through several rounds of public testing. On June 30, 2025, the team opened a beta to all PC players with no registration, payment or token required. It started with five characters, one map and rotating modes, and players could join as guests or link a wallet through MetaMask or WalletConnect, which was only needed for the marketplace and NFT minting. A public test of the battle royale mode followed on January 20, 2026, and a Steam demo ran from April 14 to May 10, 2026.
The KATA token
Katana Inu launched its KATA token through an IDO in December 2021, and the team has been building the game since then. KATA is the game’s utility token and runs on Ethereum, BNB Chain and Base. In the launcher it is used for in-game transactions such as minting and upgrading items. Holding KATA unlocks tier rewards, season perks, level-ups and stat tracking, and players can earn KATA based on time played and skill. The token has a maximum supply of 50 billion.
