Two free cars. No subscription. A deadline of August 31.
That’s the whole deal, and it’s the kind of giveaway that’s easy to miss because Sony didn’t exactly blast it out with a fireworks display. A new update from PlayStation opens up two freebies that don’t require PlayStation Plus, which is rarer than it should be.
The catch is the clock. This offer expires, so sitting on it isn’t a strategy.
The Gran Turismo World Series is doing the giving
We’re on to the second round of the Gran Turismo World Series, and Sony is marking the occasion alongside developer Polyphony Digital. There’s a gift campaign running right now that hands out two free cars for Gran Turismo 7.
No PlayStation Plus required. That’s worth repeating, because most of Sony’s “free” offers come with a monthly bill attached.
You have to watch, not just click
These are two separate streams, and each one gets you one freebie. You watch them directly inside Gran Turismo 7 through an in-game menu, so you don’t need to go hunting around a browser for it.
Simple enough. Assuming the redemption actually works, which brings us to the part Sony would probably rather not headline.
There’s a known problem with the codes
Redeeming may not go smoothly. A PlayStation 5 support page flags an ongoing issue, and it’s worth checking back for updates if you run into trouble.
Here’s how Sony described the situation: “Following the start of the ‘Gran Turismo World Series Round 2 – Tokyo’ Manufacturers Cup live broadcast, an issue occurred that prevented some users from submitting their entries for the ‘Viewers Gift Campaign’ displayed at the top right of the World Map screen in Gran Turismo 7. We have temporarily suspended entries for the campaign while we investigate the issue and work towards a resolution. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
So the campaign entries were paused while Sony sorts it out. Keep the August 31 date in mind anyway.
The PS5’s year, briefly
The PlayStation 5 is set up for a decent stretch. The PlayStation 5 Pro took a major price hike, but first-party games are still coming, and Sony just launched Marvel Tokon, publishing on behalf of developer Arc System Works.
More is queued up after that: Ghost of Yotei DLC, Silent Hill: Townfall and Marvel‘s Wolverine. All on the way. The cars, meanwhile, are available now.
And here’s the line that makes this one matter more than the average promo. Sony says these rewards are “not available for purchase in-game,” which means the campaign is the only route to them, whether you’re a car collector or you just want a couple of new toys to poke around Gran Turismo 7 with on PlayStation 5.
