Stress test, not a preview

Tavernlight said the test is not meant as a full preview of the mode. Its purpose is to strain one system: Map Sharding and Channel Scalability.

Fortune’s Frontier is built for large numbers of players in the same regions at once. Map regions can split across several channels, with capacity scaling to match how many players are active in each. The studio said the test gives it an opportunity to “push that technology under heavier player loads, monitor how it behaves, identify potential bottlenecks and make further adjustments ahead of launch.”

The call to action on the tweet and the DevBlog is the same: “Bring your friends. Fill the islands. Break what you can.”

How to join

The DevBlog carries the PTR Launcher download. Players can install it ahead of time, though Tavernlight warned a new update may be pushed and required before the test starts.

No separate test account is needed. Existing RavenQuest and Fortune’s Frontier accounts work on the PTR. But the test will use an account backup taken Sunday morning, so accounts created after Saturday night may not be available.

The build is beta software. The studio told players to “expect bugs, unfinished balance, and some rough edges.” Knighter will give away rewards to adventurers taking part.

Three islands, two-week seasons

Fortune’s Frontier is a seasonal extraction mode for solo players and duos, set across three Pirate Isles with escalating risk. Sajecho is the safest, where death costs players only the treasure they carry. Harbor drops treasure more often but takes both inventory and treasure from anyone who dies.

Characters start at an advanced level, erasing the usual progression gap between veterans and newcomers. Seasons run two weeks each, with Solo and Clan Leaderboards resetting every cycle and a performance-based Reward Pool tied to the QUEST token. Top Ravencards and cosmetics carry between seasons, and Emblems earned on the Frontier grant XP and gear boosts back in RavenQuest.

Season 0 opens October 16 at 8:00 AM PT.

The road to October 16

Tavernlight revealed the mode in March, timed to RavenQuest’s one-year anniversary, and confirmed the date during a studio livestream on September 19. In the March post, the studio framed the mode plainly: “More players. More activity. More ecosystem health. That’s the thesis.”

The Frontier Carnival update ran September 19 through September 29 and laid groundwork, adding the clan system, ten pets and two Tiger mounts. A Twitch drops campaign runs through October 9, paying out RavenPacks at 180 and 360 minutes watched. The mode’s dedicated Discord server counted 615 members as of Friday.

“Fortune’s Frontier is our answer to the ‘progression wall’ often found in MMOs,” said Nicolas Schrik, CEO of Tavernlight Games, at the March reveal. He said the seasonal, skill-based format gave the studio an entry point for new players while offering veterans “a high-stakes challenge where every decision matters.”
