Rockstar Says GTA 6 Launches With No Microtransactions and No Generative AI

Rockstar Games has said Grand Theft Auto 6 will ship in November without microtransactions and without generative AI. Two of the most reliable sources of internet outrage, gone before the game even loads.

The studio confirmed it during a conversation with Kinda Funny Games earlier this week. So when the game arrives in a few months, the launch should be free of backlash on these two fronts, at least.

How the question actually got asked

Kinda Funny’s Andy Cortez said he asked Rockstar directly, at a preview event held before the GTA 6: Extended Look, whether players will be able to spend real-world money on things inside the game. He went on, saying, “no monetizations in this game.”

Greg Miller followed up on the other subject immediately. He said he asked Rockstar “point-blank” whether there is generative AI in GTA 6. The team told him that there is “no AI” used in the game.

That second answer lands in a specific moment. From Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Arc Raiders, generative AI has proven time and time again to be an especially troublesome element for developers to include in their games. The millions of players who have waited 13 years for the next Grand Theft Auto might be glad similar claims won’t mar the mid-November release.

The microtransaction answer has an asterisk

Rockstar says GTA 6 will not feature the kind of monetization strategies that let players buy content with real-world cash. Good news for an entirely single-player release. It’s also another reminder that the team doesn’t look like it intends to share updates on a new iteration of Grand Theft Auto Online any time soon.

But no microtransactions in the traditional sense isn’t the same as no paid content. Some of it sits behind the Ultimate Edition, priced at $99.99, a $20 increase over the $79.99 standard edition.

That version grants access to exclusive content: cosmetic packs, cars, guns and even some shops, including the Electric Fang tattoo parlor and the Stock 305 clothing store. An official support page confirmed standard edition owners will be able to purchase an Ultimate Edition upgrade separately.

“Ultimate Edition bonuses are threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter,” the page added.

What that leaves for launch day

Beyond the Ultimate Edition, it sounds like players shouldn’t expect other microtransaction tactics, or generative AI, when GTA 6 launches for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.

There will be plenty more to show before then. For now, the pitch is a $99.99 tier where the bonus content is threaded through Jason and Lucia’s story rather than sold to you piece by piece afterward.
