A white DualSense with a sticker on the touchpad. That’s how one unimpressed fan summed up Sony’s newest limited-edition controller, and plenty of people online were just as confused about why it exists right now.
The controller is the Lisa Limited Edition DualSense wireless controller, built for a global PlayStation 5 campaign with Lisa, the Thai rapper, singer, dancer and actress who became famous as a member of the South Korean girl group Blackpink. Sony said she helped design it herself.
What you actually get
The pad has a Chroma Pearl finish. On the touchpad there are decals of Lisa’s trademark bangs and eyes, plus her signature stars and “LL” lettering.
If you’ve ever wanted a controller that gives you a direct look at a pop star’s fringe every time you open the map, this is your chance.
Lisa said the project was personal for her.
“Gaming is something I do whenever I have time to relax, so getting to create this collection with PlayStation was very exciting. I had a lot of fun adding in little details that I knew my fans would notice, and I wanted the fans to have something they can connect with. I’ve always loved expressing myself through music and fashion, so this collaboration gave me a new way to be creative and show a different side of myself. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do,” Lisa said.
The price and the dates
Pre-orders open October 2 at 10am local time, while supplies last. The controller goes on sale 30 October in limited quantities, directly from PlayStation and through participating retailers.
It costs $84.99 USD, ¥12,480 (including tax), €84.99 or £74.99.
Sony has a long habit of dropping special DualSense controllers alongside its biggest game launches. This one skips the game tie-in completely and goes straight for a celebrity partnership, which is part of why the reveal landed so strangely.
Fans had notes
The timing is the awkward part. Sony is making major changes to how it does business in the coming months, and when the collaboration was announced on Twitter/X, the replies zeroed in on that almost immediately.
“Lisa chose the worst moment to partner with Sony. Poor girl. At least, the controller is physical,” one comment read, a reference to Sony’s decision to release only digital games in the future.
Another fan kept the joke going but was kinder to the product. “I won’t knock her product. It’s pretty cool. I’m glad we can still get physical controllers and not digital ones.”
Not everyone was in a joking mood.
“Once again, Sony failing at hearing their fans and delivering something nobody asked for. Plus, it’s a simple plain white controller with a sticker on the touchpad,” another user wrote.
Who this is for
A controller still matters. It has to be comfortable and look good, and in the DualSense’s case the haptic feedback has to actually work. Sony clearly still cares about its hardware, even while fans are staring at the bigger changes it won’t talk about.
But this release isn’t aimed at people who are angry about digital-only games. It’s aimed at Lisa fans who want those stars and “LL” letters under their thumbs, and they’ll need to be quick when pre-orders open on October 2.
