  • CCP Games shipped patch 0.6.4.0 to EVE Frontier, adding a new weapon type called the Stuttergun and a Thrust Overdrive module.
  • The update lands in the Sanctuary cycle of the paid Founder Access build, which CCP is porting from an EVM testnet to the Sui blockchain.
  • It’s an early entry in the run of combat updates the studio laid out in its July roadmap, ahead of a mid-season release set for Aug. 18.

CCP Games released patch 0.6.4.0 for EVE Frontier, adding a new weapon type, the Stuttergun, alongside a Thrust Overdrive module. The studio announced the update through its patch notes and a post on X.

The patch also reworks the Needle laser and clears a batch of defect fixes, according to the notes. CCP didn’t publish combat statistics for the new gear in the announcement.

Small as it looks, the drop fits a pattern. CCP told players earlier in July that a string of “offensive and defensive” updates would arrive over successive weeks, with the exact contents shaped by community testing feedback.

Where it fits

Version 0.6.x is the game’s sixth cycle, branded Sanctuary. That release built EVE Frontier around modular ship construction, letting players assemble hulls from swappable pieces. The Stuttergun and Thrust Overdrive extend that toolkit on the weapons and propulsion side.

More is queued. CCP has a mid-season update planned for Aug. 18 that it described as “better tools in a bigger toolbox,” adding character shell modules built around survival and introducing gravity hazards from black holes and rifts.

A mid-cycle patch in October is set to bring full ship and structure modularity, temporary player teams and shared storage.

Founder Access and the Sui move

Sanctuary and every patch under it run inside Founder Access, the paid early-access program CCP opened to players. Packs sell in three tiers priced from $30 to $90 and grant closed alpha entry, cosmetic skins, a Founder role on Discord, monthly developer streams and post-launch subscription time.

The closed alpha opened Dec. 10 under an NDA covering development details. CCP also ran a free 10-day trial for players who wanted to test the game without buying in.

The chain underneath keeps shifting. CCP began development on an EVM-based testnet in Solidity, and that build became the basis for the current Founder Access client. The studio has since said EVE Frontier will run on Sui, the Layer-1 network from Mysten Labs, citing its speed and onchain object model as a fit for a universe of tens of thousands of star systems. As of early 2026, CCP is porting the Founder Access build to Sui.

The game is designed to carry multiple tokens, including an EVE utility token. CCP has said it won’t restrict transactions outside the game and has been careful to frame EVE Frontier as a game that uses blockchain rather than a blockchain game.

“Our long-term vision is to create an open ecosystem built, operated and governed by the Frontier’s inhabitants themselves,” said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP Games.

The Icelandic studio behind EVE Online raised $40 million for its blockchain work in 2023, in a round led by Andreessen Horowitz.
