Amazon just wedged a Games tab into Prime Video, and the most revealing thing about it is who it leaves out.

This isn’t a play for the people grinding through MMOs and shooters. Amazon says as much. The target is the person already parked on the couch watching a show, who might tap a button and start playing without thinking of themselves as a gamer at all.

Luna (official site), Amazon’s cloud gaming service, now lives inside Prime Video on Fire TV. No separate app, no download. You open Prime Video, hit the Games tab and you’re in.

The audience Amazon actually wants

Luna was already part of Prime. What’s new is the placement. Users in the US and UK can now reach it straight from Prime Video instead of hunting for it elsewhere.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. Amazon has folded Prime Gaming, Amazon Game Studios and Luna into a single organization, and the Games tab is where that reorg becomes visible. The pitch is aimed at the casual crowd streaming movies, TV and sports, not the “core” gamers Amazon has decided not to fight for.

Amazon gaming exec Jeff Gattis laid out the thinking to The Verge last month, and it’s come into focus now that the tab is live on Fire TV.

An unusually honest admission

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gattis didn’t pretend Amazon has cracked this before. He said Amazon has “never established” itself as a gaming platform so far.

That’s a rare thing for a company launching a feature to say out loud. And it reframes the whole move. This is less a victory lap than a fresh attempt using the one advantage Amazon has that most gaming platforms don’t: a captive audience that’s already watching.

Gattis pointed to Amazon-owned IP like Tomb Raider and James Bond as central to the plan. The bet is that name recognition, not raw gaming horsepower, pulls people in.

What you can actually play right now

At launch the tab lets US and UK users jump into Dispatch, Fallout 4, Hogwarts Legacy, EA Sports FC 26 and Clue. Five titles, spanning a chunky open-world RPG, a wizard sim, a soccer sim and a board game adaptation.

It’s a deliberately broad spread. There’s something for the Fallout 4 crowd and something for the family that just wants a round of Clue after dinner.

Everyone outside those two countries is stuck waiting. Amazon says “details on additional devices, countries, and games” will be announced later, which is the kind of line that commits to nothing.

Where Netflix already went

If this feels familiar, it should. Netflix recently added streaming games you can play on your TV, and Amazon is walking the same path toward the living room.

The difference is what Amazon does with its own catalog. The Games tab doubles as a promo channel for tie-in games aimed at people who just finished watching something on Prime Video.

That’s how you get Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite, a co-op card battler, sitting alongside Courtroom Chaos: Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, an “AI-powered party game” timed to Schwarzenegger’s new holiday movie for Amazon later this year.

The catch worth watching

The tie-in strategy is the tell. When a Games tab exists partly to sell you on the movie you’re about to watch, the games risk becoming marketing with a controller attached.

Cloud gaming also lives and dies on your connection, and Amazon isn’t making any promises there beyond “start playing right away.” How Fallout 4 holds up over a shaky home network is the question that decides whether this sticks.

Here’s the practical read. If you’re in the US or UK and you already pay for Prime, open the Games tab and load Fallout 4 tonight. You’ve already paid for it, so the only cost is finding out whether cloud play on your TV is good enough. If you’re anywhere else, there’s nothing to try yet, and Amazon hasn’t said when there will be.
