Most “best crypto games” lists are written once and never touched again. This one is different in two ways. First, every game on it is drawn from the CryptoGames.gg directory, where we track 4,478 blockchain games and check each one’s status, website and playability rather than taking a press release’s word for it. Second, the order is not a matter of taste. It is our own score out of 100, recomputed daily from what we can verify ourselves, and the ten games below are simply the ten that score highest right now.

That matters because crypto gaming has a shutdown problem. Of the games in our directory, roughly 86% are no longer live. A list that ranks by hype will send you to a login screen that no longer works. Everything below is live, playable today, and free to start.

1. Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity is the game that made “play to earn” a phrase, and it is still the most complete crypto game you can install today. You assemble a team of three Axies, cartoon creatures with distinct body parts that map to cards, and take them into turn-based battles against other players or through a PvE adventure mode. Breeding two Axies produces a new one whose parts are inherited, which is where the collecting and the trading come from.

It tops our list because it clears every check we run: the game is playable on three platforms, the studio ships regular updates, it is covered constantly in the press, and our own review of it is the deepest in the directory. The 2021 boom and the bust that followed are well documented, and anyone arriving now should treat AXS and the in-game economy as a feature of the game rather than a reason to play it. As a strategy card game it stands on its own, and a starter team is free.

2. The Sandbox

The Sandbox is a voxel world, closer to Roblox than to Minecraft, in which players and studios build “experiences” on plots of land they own and other players visit them. The two tools that make it work, VoxEdit for building assets and Game Maker for scripting experiences without code, are free, and the seasonal events that open the map to everyone are where most people first play it.

It ranks second on the strength of its ecosystem rather than any one experience: hundreds of branded and community-built worlds, a working marketplace for assets, and one of the most durable studios in the space. It is a Windows-only download, which keeps mobile players out, and its best content is concentrated around the seasons. Between them it can feel empty. Land and most premium assets cost SAND, but you do not need either to play.

3. Pixels

Pixels is a 16-bit farming game that runs in a browser tab. You create a character, work a plot of land, gather and process resources, and level skills in the familiar Stardew Valley loop, with a persistent shared world and guilds layered on top. It moved to the Ronin chain in 2024 and has been one of the most-played blockchain games since.

It is third because of how easy it is to start and how much there is to do once you have. There is no download, no wallet is needed to begin, and the economy is tuned so that a free player can make steady progress. The trade-off is that the deeper reputation and land systems are built for players who own or rent land, and the reward side of the game has been re-balanced more than once. 4. Illuvium

Illuvium is not one game but a set of connected ones sharing a world and a collection of creatures called Illuvials. Overworld is the open-world exploration and capture game, Arena is the auto battler in which your captured Illuvials fight in squads, and Zero is a city-builder that feeds resources back into the others. Everything runs on Immutable X, so trades are gas-free, and you sign in with an Immutable Passport that doubles as your wallet.

It earns fourth place on production quality. Illuvium looks like a mid-budget PC game rather than a browser toy, and the auto-battler mode is a genuinely good one. Against that, the download is large, it is desktop only, and the studio has been through a long development cycle with the full launch arriving well after the original promise. 5. Big Time

Big Time is a fast, co-operative action RPG in the Diablo mould, set in a time-travelling universe of collapsing timelines. You pick one of six classes, run dungeons with up to five other players, and collect gear. What makes it a crypto game is the Pocket Watch, an item that lets a character switch class, and the SPACE system, personal areas where crafting stations and cosmetic NFTs live.

Fifth place reflects a solid core loop and a studio founded by people with mainstream game credits. The combat is real-time and reads as a proper action game rather than a clicker, and the token was introduced late and deliberately, after the game was playable. The catch is scope: the world is smaller than its ambition, and the economy leans on cosmetics and time-limited drops. Try it with friends; it is built for a group.

6. Splinterlands

Splinterlands is a collectible card game that has run continuously since 2018, which in this industry is a lifetime. Matches are quick: you choose a summoner and fill a team of monsters within a mana budget, then the battle resolves automatically. Seventh place is a bet on trajectory as much as on what is playable today. The engine puts it visually ahead of almost everything else here, the team ships on a public schedule, and the farming loop is complete and free. The rest of the world is still arriving, so the content ceiling is lower than the presentation suggests. Worth installing now if you want to be early to something that looks the part.

8. Hamster Kombat

Hamster Kombat is the game that put tens of millions of people into a Telegram mini-app in 2024. It has since added seasons and a spin-off with more traditional gameplay.

Ninth place reflects staying power and a real on-chain governance layer that most “metaverse” games only describe. It is light on gameplay in the ordinary sense: sessions are short and the mining loop is a click and a wait. Every card is an NFT on Immutable X, trades are gas-free, and the weekend ranked events pay out card packs. Its early design leadership came from Magic: The Gathering.

It closes the top ten because the card game underneath is well made and it has held a competitive scene for seven years. The free starter decks are playable, though climbing past mid-ranks means acquiring cards, and the meta has narrowed as the player base has. If you want a true head-to-head card game rather than an auto battler, this is the one to try.

How we rank crypto games

Every game in our directory gets a score out of 100, recomputed daily. Up to 80 points come from evidence we gather ourselves: whether the game is playable right now, whether its website and play link answer, whether it has been covered by the press, and how thoroughly we have documented it with a written verdict, FAQ and pros and cons. Up to 20 more points come from outside market evidence, such as the market cap of its token. Missing data never counts against a game: a title that no aggregator has heard of can earn every one of the 80 base points.

Two things the score is not. It is not a review rating, and we do not publish it as one; our written verdicts carry no number. And it does not reward what a game promises. A roadmap earns nothing; a working login earns points. That is why the list above is dominated by games that have been live for years.
