Ballerina Cappuccina is now a loot objective in PUBG MOBILE. So is Brr Brr Patapim. And Boneka Ambalabu. And Lirilì Larilà.
That’s the pitch for Brainrot Royale, a new mode launching today inside World of Wonder, and it’s exactly as unhinged as it sounds. The viral meme creatures with the pseudo-Italian rhyming names have officially crossed over into the biggest mobile battle royale on the planet, with licensing support from games studio Do Big Studio.
The mode is a hoarding contest with guns
Forget the last-player-standing formula. Brainrot Royale is a frantic race to build the biggest Brainrot collection before the match ends.
The characters are scattered across the map. You find them, you escort them back to base, you bank them. Every successful collection upgrades your weapons, unlocks stronger Brainrot and opens access to rarer ones.
Here’s the catch, and it’s the good kind. Anything you bring home becomes a target. Rival players can raid your base and steal your rare Brainrot outright, which means you’re constantly weighing whether to push out for another grab or stay back and guard what you’ve already got.
Take down a Brainrot and you earn coins. Coins buy stronger weapons. Stronger weapons mean more damage, tougher challenges and a bigger collection. The loop feeds itself.
Beach party eggs and bosses that launch you
Scattered around the map are beach party eggs hiding surprise rewards. There are also oversized Boss encounters that can send players flying in ridiculous fashion before dropping valuable loot.
It’s silly. It’s also recognizably PUBG MOBILE underneath, with the same fast, tactical decision-making that shows up whether you’re fending off a last-second raid or timing the perfect theft.
Rick Li, Producer of PUBG MOBILE and Deputy General Manager of Quantum Studio, LightSpeed Studios, Tencent Games, said: “Every gameplay mechanic had to feel true to the fast-moving, unpredictable nature of the original IP, while creating the kind of moments that players would want to jump back in and experience again.”
World of Wonder is doing bigger numbers than you’d guess
WOW is PUBG MOBILE’s creator platform, where players build and publish their own maps, modes and experiences. Competitive shooters, puzzle challenges, racing maps, whatever. The drag-and-drop tools mean you don’t need a coding background to make something.
Since it launched in March 2023, users have generated more than 5.4 million maps, and the platform has hit over 8.5 million peak daily players. That scale is why professional studios have started showing up alongside the hobbyists.
“World of Wonder has become one of the most exciting ways for us to evolve PUBG MOBILE beyond traditional battle royale. Every collaboration in World of Wonder is an opportunity to give players fresh experiences while empowering creators to push the platform in entirely new directions,” said Vincent Wang, Head of PUBG MOBILE Publishing at Tencent Games. “Brainrot Royale reflects that vision, bringing together a globally recognised IP and our creator ecosystem to deliver something totally new for the community. Using PUBG MOBILE’s creative tools, Brainrot Royale will provide a new challenge built around tactical Brainrot collection moments, stealthy stealing and solid defence to emerge victorious. Looking ahead, WOW welcomes more top studios and talented creators to join the ecosystem and build more exciting gameplay experiences together.”
Do Big Studio wanted the chaos to spread
The studio behind the Brainrot IP is treating this as a natural extension of what the memes already do.
“Brainrot has always been about creating something people want to share, and turning that into a playable experience in PUBG MOBILE opened up a whole new level of creativity for us,” said Justin Peress, CFO of Do Big Studios. “We’re especially excited to see players shoot, steal, defend and create their own crazy Brainrot moments. Watching the community embrace the unexpected and put their own spin on the experience is what this collaboration is all about.”
Brainrot Royale is live in World of Wonder today, the first time the original Brainrot IP has landed in PUBG MOBILE. The game is free on the App Store and Google Play Store.
Somewhere out there, a player is about to lose a hard-won Lirilì Larilà to a stranger who raided the base while they were off chasing a rarer one. That’s the game.
