What is Legacy?

Legacy is a blockchain business simulation developed by British studio 22cans under the direction of Peter Molyneux, and published by Gala Games. Announced in 2019 and revealed as a blockchain title in December 2021, it draws on Molyneux's 1984 text-based business game The Entrepreneur. The public release arrived on 26 October 2023 as a free-to-download PC and macOS title distributed through the Gala Games launcher. Rather than combat or questing, the game asks players to build and run a company inside a shared city, expanding from a single workshop into a manufacturing operation.

How to play Legacy

Players design their own products and buildings, then assign virtual workers to manufacture those designs in in-game factories. Output is sold and traded on an open in-game market, and periodic in-game competitions rank players on leaderboards with prizes attached. The city itself is divided into land plots, originally distributed as NFTs during a limited sale that began in December 2021 and sold out entirely; landowner status gates participation in parts of the economy, while the base client can be downloaded and played without owning land.

Legacy tokenomics and earning

The project's token, LegacyCoin, launched as an ERC-20 asset on Ethereum and is used for purchasing in-game item NFTs and for competition prize pools. At release the game integrated with GalaChain, Gala's own game-oriented chain, which holds player-owned in-game assets and supports bridging items to and from Ethereum for secondary-market trading. Land NFTs from the original sale trade on secondary markets rather than being minted anew.

Is Legacy worth playing?

Legacy suits players who like management and design loops more than action, and the free client makes it possible to evaluate the simulation before spending anything. Prospective buyers should note that land supply is fixed and that the game's economic features are tied to continued operation of the client and its chain integrations.
