What is Nine Chronicles?
Nine Chronicles is a free-to-play, fully on-chain idle MMORPG developed by Planetarium, set in a fantasy world drawn from Norse mythology. Its mainnet launched in October 2020 and runs on Libplanet, an open-source C# distributed-ledger library built for peer-to-peer games and compatible with Unity. Rather than settling only assets on a general-purpose chain, Nine Chronicles records game progression, its economy and its items as blockchain transactions on an independent network that players themselves help operate by running nodes.
How to play Nine Chronicles
Clients exist for Windows and macOS, including a free Steam release, and for Android and iOS as Nine Chronicles M. Desktop players install the launcher, which handles private-key storage, an NCG wallet, updates and node syncing; because the launcher acts as a node, the first run downloads a chain snapshot and can take a long time. After creating a character, the core mode is Adventure, a stage-based campaign spanning multiple worlds with a boss at the end of each. Stage materials feed randomized crafting and cooking, while Arena offers a PvP ladder and World Boss and Adventure Boss provide shared raid content.
Nine Chronicles tokenomics & earning
The base currency is Nine Chronicles Gold (NCG), spent on crafting, marketplace trades and player challenges, and also used for staking and governance voting. Players who opt in to mine while playing help secure the network and earn NCG for it. Staking NCG returns in-game benefits such as AP potions and hourglasses. NCG can be wrapped 1:1 into WNCG, an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, which is how the in-game economy connects to external markets.
Is Nine Chronicles worth playing?
Nine Chronicles suits players comfortable with idle, grind-driven progression and with the overhead of running blockchain software, since syncing, wallet management and multi-hour crafting timers are part of the experience rather than incidental to it. Combat resolves largely automatically, so most of the depth sits in gear crafting, upgrading and economic decisions. Players expecting fast action or a one-click install will find the setup demanding.
