Our verdict on Pudgy World
Pudgy World is the playable extension of the Pudgy Penguins brand — a free browser game set in a snowy region called The Berg, built by Igloo Inc. on Abstract, the Ethereum layer-2 the same company operates. Sign-up runs through email, a social account or a passkey; no wallet setup, token purchase or NFT is needed to start, and there are Windows and macOS clients alongside the web version.
What works is the deliberate invisibility of the chain. The opening arc — Pengu searching for a missing friend, Polly, with Pudgy and Peaches narrating — frames a plain quest-and-collection loop: fishing as the core resource, roughly a dozen towns to wander, avatar customisation, and other players present in the world in real time. Holders of Pudgy Penguins NFTs, or of the physical toys sold through mainstream retail, can scan a code to claim a "Forever" penguin with unique traits. That is the ownership layer arriving as a bonus rather than a gate, which is the opposite of how most token-backed games are structured.
