STEPN is a blockchain-based fitness app built on Solana that combines physical movement with cryptocurrency rewards. Players purchase or mint NFT sneakers to participate in the move-to-earn ecosystem, where walking, jogging, and running generate tokens. The app gamifies fitness by allowing users to own verifiable digital sneaker assets on the blockchain, creating a transparent and security-focused economy where movement is the basis for in-game earnings.

How STEPN works

To earn in STEPN, players acquire NFT sneakers with varying attributes, rarity levels, and types optimized for different activities (walking, jogging, running). Each sneaker consumes in-game energy when active outdoors; daily energy pools regenerate and determine maximum earning potential. The app tracks movement via GPS to verify genuine physical activity, preventing system manipulation. Sneakers require maintenance and can be upgraded using in-game currency, creating ongoing asset management mechanics.

STEPN tokenomics & earning

STEPN uses dual tokens: GMT (governance token) and GST (utility token earned through movement). Players earn GST proportional to sneaker quality, rarity, and energy consumption, then convert it to upgrade sneakers or trade on exchanges. Solana's low transaction costs enable affordable on-chain operations, allowing players to buy, sell, repair, and manage their sneaker portfolios directly on the blockchain.
