In Brief:
- Kintara (official site) has added The Merchant’s Debt, a murder-mystery update that opens with the death of the game’s Traveling Merchant.
- The first 100 players to solve the case will get a Constable’s Cap.
- The update also adds eight buff dishes, 43 achievements, weekly goals, Frostmere monsters and tool upgrades the studio said “pay off.”
Kintara has killed off its Traveling Merchant and put players on the case.
The Merchant’s Debt went live as the latest content drop for the Solana MMO. The studio announced it in a post on X from its @PlayKintara account. “The Traveling Merchant is dead, and the Constable doesn’t believe it was a robbery,” the post said.
NEW in Kintara: The Merchant's Debt
The Traveling Merchant is dead, and the Constable doesn't believe it was a robbery.
First 100 to solve it get the Constable's Cap 8 new buff dishes 43 achievements + weekly goals Frostmere monsters Tools that pay off
Who did
The post closed by asking players who did it.
A cap for the first 100
Only the first 100 players to solve the mystery will receive the Constable’s Cap. The post didn’t say how players submit an answer or when the case closes.
It also didn’t say whether the cap is tradable or what it does beyond the cosmetic slot. Kintara has used capped and limited cosmetics before. Its Halloween event added Haunted Chests, limited cosmetics and rare Zombie Mask drops.
What else is in the update
The rest of the update goes beyond the mystery. Kintara listed eight new buff dishes, which tie into the game’s cooking loop, where players gather, cook and sell or bank what they make.
There are 43 new achievements, and weekly goals now run on top of the daily quests already in the game. Those dailies cover skills like woodcutting, mining, fishing and combat. They reset every 24 hours and pay out gold, XP and occasional badges.
Frostmere also gets new monsters. The studio’s post gave no names, stats or drop tables for them.
The last item is “Tools that pay off.” The post didn’t say which tools changed or what the payoff is.
The merchant’s history
The Traveling Merchant isn’t a new character. Kintara added a Merchant Cycle in version 3.6, alongside Apartments and a multi-page banking system.
A later Traveling Merchant rollout gave players two routes to gold, including a guaranteed daily Personal Gold claim based on their $KINS holdings. Under the same system, players could reclaim materials from losing entries. A 5% resource tax is permanently burned.
Killing that character gives the update a premise players already know. The post didn’t say whether the merchant’s gold mechanics change now that he’s dead.
Background
Kintara is a browser-based isometric MMO that went live on May 22, 2026. Players explore, gather, fish, fight and trade, and earn $KINS through the in-game economy. Gold handles quests, shop purchases, cosmetics and most player-to-player trades, and $KINS sits on top as the Solana token.
In August the game launched on the Solana dApp Store for Seeker owners. Version 5.9, released Aug. 29, 2026, added free-to-play access with sign-in through email, Google, Discord, X, Passkey or Solana Mobile Wallet Adapter.
October has been busy. Before The Merchant’s Debt, Kintara announced the Sunken Isles, its first open-water biome, and the game’s first ranged weapon.
The studio’s announcement ended with the question it wants players to answer: “Who did”
