Norman Osborn clearly hasn’t been skipping leg day.
A piece of concept art that appears to show the Green Goblin from Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is making the rounds. In this version, Osborn keeps the classic green skin but trades the cartoon mischief for a lot of muscle. He’s dressed all in black, and the only real color on him is a hint of purple inside his cape. Fans are split on it, though the split leans friendly.
Before anyone starts building a Halloween costume, remember one thing. The art dates back to 2023, and the game hasn’t been announced. This may not be the final design.
What fans are saying
The design went up on Reddit, and the comments did what comments do. User hushpolocaps69 liked the choice. “Glad they went this route instead of the monster version,” they said. “The monster version would’ve been too similar to Venom.”
That’s a fair point. Spider-Man 2 already spent a lot of time on a hulking, snarling black creature, so putting another one in the next game would feel like a rerun.
Another commenter found a middle ground. “What if they do this version, but as the game progresses the mutation begins more and then have demon goblin by the end of the game?” they said. It’s a smart idea, since it lets a slow transformation carry the story, and it’s the kind of thing Insomniac could plausibly build a third act around.
Then there were the jokes. “Damn, Norman made sure he hit the gym before he went on a rampage,” one fan said. And Captain_Norris had some light notes: “Not too bad, would love more purple in the outfit beyond just the interior of the cape.”
Put it all together and you get a fairly warm reception. Nobody is calling it a disaster. Most people like the direction and have a small tweak or two in mind.
Where this leak came from
This art isn’t new. It’s fallout from December 2023, when hackers hit Insomniac Games with a ransomware attack and demanded $2 million from the Sony-owned studio.
More than two years later, documents from that breach are still being passed around online. The Goblin art is simply the latest one to come back up.
That’s a rough position for any studio. Work that was never meant to be seen keeps getting judged as if it were final, years before release.
Norman’s long road to green
Osborn has been part of this series from the beginning as the owner and CEO of Oscorp Industries. He’s had a hand in almost every storyline so far, and he always seemed to be one bad day away from turning into something worse.
The next game looks set to be his “final chapter,” and it’s safe to read that as Osborn finally becoming the Green Goblin. The series has been setting this up for a long time.
Spider-Man 3 isn’t official, yet
Insomniac hasn’t formally announced Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. Still, the game is all but assumed to be in the works. Yuri Lowenthal, who voices Peter Parker, all but confirmed it in a recent interview.
There have also been hints that a third web-slinger may join Peter and Miles on their next outing. That’s a separate rumor, and it’s one to keep an eye on.
Until Insomniac says something, all anyone has is a two-year-old drawing of a very buff Norman Osborn in a black suit with a little purple lining, with a lot of people online arguing about how much more purple it needs.
