In Brief:

  • MattleFun said Mattle Run’s v4.2.0 update will add new lighting features to Blackout Mode, including chest and weapon lights and glowing mob eyes.
  • The patch also brings Scarecrow lighting support and a new item, the Pumpkin Lantern, which gives +40% light radius.
  • The team hasn’t given a release date. It described the update only as “coming very soon.”

MattleFun is preparing a lighting overhaul for Blackout Mode in Mattle Run, the survival game at the center of its Solana trading platform. The changes are due in version 4.2.0.

“Blackout Mode is getting major upgrades in v4.2.0, coming very soon,” the team said in a post on X.

The post didn’t include a date, patch notes or a note on whether the update reaches web and mobile at the same time.

What’s in the patch

The post listed four changes. Scarecrows get lighting support. Chests and weapons will now give off light, and mobs’ eyes will glow in the dark.

The fourth change is a new item. The Pumpkin Lantern adds 40% to the player’s light radius.

MattleFun didn’t say how the lantern drops, whether it stacks with other items or whether it shows up in other modes. It also didn’t explain how the lighting changes affect scoring.

Timing

The update is coming during Mattle Run Season 19, which the project calls its Night Season. The Halloween-themed season runs from Oct. 21 to Nov. 20, 2026.

The season’s prize pool is 700,000 MATTLE, 600 Mattle Keys and 5,000 Medals, with a combined value the project put at around $5,000. Season 19 is also the first to split standings into two tables: a Main Rank for total points and a Skill Rank.

The pool is bigger than earlier seasons’. Season 17 in August offered 500,000 MATTLE plus 100,000 SKR. Season 15 paid 400,000 MATTLE to its top 200 players.

MattleFun hasn’t said whether Blackout Mode results count toward either Season 19 leaderboard.

How the game works

In Mattle Run, players dodge monsters, collect gems to level up and fight off growing enemy waves. Normal, Hard and Cursed are the modes most often listed.

Normal runs 10 minutes at standard pace with a 1,000-point win bonus. Hard cuts the clock to five minutes at 120% pace and pays a 4,000-point bonus. Cursed lasts 10 minutes, drops player stats to 80% and pays a 1,500-point bonus.

The platform ties trading to gameplay. Volume through its built-in terminal turns into Boosting Points, which raise Health, Defense, Movement and Luck. Points scored in runs can be converted into MATTLE.

The game is free to play, but converting points into tokens requires the Mattle Game Pass. It costs 0.03 SOL and gives 20 energy per day for runs.

Release pattern

MattleFun has released some past versions on web first. When Mattle Run v3.2.0 shipped, the team said it was “officially live on web” and that the “Mobile version update will roll out in the coming days.”

The game is played through the web app at app.mattle.fun and through an Android app on Google Play.
