Playground Games isn’t budging. Forza Horizon 6 is still coming to PS5 this year, delay rumors notwithstanding, and the studio said as much in a post today.
What it didn’t say: when.
“If you’re planning your trip to Discover Japan on PlayStation 5, stay tuned!” Playground said. “Forza Horizon 6 will be releasing on PS5 later this year, and you can add the game to your Wishlist on the PlayStation Store to be notified of availability.”
That’s the whole update. No date, no window narrower than “later,” nothing about how the port runs. Just a wishlist button and a clock that keeps moving.
The calendar is the real problem
September and October are packed. Marvel's Wolverine and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 are both landing in that stretch, but those audiences don’t overlap with Forza’s enough to smother it. A racing game can breathe in that gap.
November can’t. Putting Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 in November, opposite GTA 6, would be a death wish. Rockstar’s game is expected to arrive with deep car customization and races on top of everything else people show up to GTA for. Ask yourself which one a PS5 owner picks that month. You already know.
December is slightly more survivable. Slightly. The GTA 6 hype will still be running hot and it’ll be the item everyone wants under the tree.
So Microsoft and Playground are working with a narrow runway and not much time to build anticipation before they hit the end of it.
The precedent is on Playground’s side
Here’s the thing working in their favor: Forza Horizon 5 was a hit on PS5 even though it showed up on the platform very late. Late didn’t hurt it. Players came anyway, and there’s no reason to think the sequel gets treated differently.
Forza Horizon 6 is one of the biggest games of 2026 in a year that’s been relentless. It’s among the best-selling games of the year and the reviews backed it up, including a 10/10.
“Technically, Forza Horizon 6 has not skipped a beat, and it runs like a titan,” one review said. “Aesthetically, it’s the best-looking and best-sounding game Playground has produced to date, set in the most wonderfully realised map it’s ever crafted, full of dense, authentic details and stunning driving roads. It’s rewarding to explore, the campaign is well-paced with a great payoff, and I simply cannot stop playing.”
PS5 owners get to find out whether that holds up on their hardware sometime between now and December 31. Playground has the wishlist page up. It just doesn’t have a date on it.
