Endgame’s opening day record stood for six years. It lasted about 24 hours against Spider-Man.
Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day pulled $168 million at the domestic box office on its first day in theaters, according to Variety. That’s $11 million more than Avengers: Endgame‘s $157 million, and it makes Brand New Day the biggest domestic opening day of all time.
Not the biggest superhero opening day. The biggest, period.
The weekend number is where it gets interesting
Sony reportedly expects the Tom Holland-starring, Destin Daniel Cretton-directed film to reach $325 million by the end of the weekend. Other estimates put it as high as $358 million.
That second figure matters. Endgame’s domestic opening weekend was $357 million. If Brand New Day hits $358 million, it takes that record too, by a single million dollars, which is the kind of margin that makes studio executives refresh their phones on a Sunday morning.
We’re only halfway through the first weekend and global totals haven’t been tallied. But the biggest opening weekend of the year looks locked. The all-time crown is very much in play.
The previews told you this was coming
None of this arrived out of nowhere. Early tracking had the film positioned for a big debut, and preview audiences delivered $72 million before opening day even started.
Endgame’s preview number was $60 million. So Spidey was already breaking records before most people had seen the movie.
2026 has been brutal for everyone else’s records
Marvel didn’t walk into an empty room. This year has been stacked.
Nintendo and Illumination’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie opened strong in April and crossed $1 billion in June. Michael, the King of Pop biopic, posted record numbers when it premiered in late April and passed $1 billion last month. Toy Story 5 managed a $312 million global opening in June and hit $1 billion last weekend.
Then there’s The Odyssey, which beat expectations with a $264 million global opening. Christopher Nolan’s film hasn’t crossed $1 billion yet, but it’s tracking that way.
Spidey’s going to beat all of them.
