In Brief:
- The Sandbox will enhance LAND utility with the public launch of The Sandbox (official site) Studio in Q4 2026.
- Games published on a LAND will gain catalog visibility based on tier, and creators will earn a larger revenue share.
- LAND owners will be able to host other creators’ games, expanding their control and potential revenue avenues.
Enhanced LAND utility coming in 2026
The Sandbox is set to upgrade LAND utility with the announcement of The Sandbox Studio public launch in Q4 2026. This initiative aims to increase visibility for games published on users’ LAND, with placement in the catalog weighted by tier. The changes are designed to reward creators who publish their games on their own plots, providing them with preferred monetization mechanics and a greater share of the revenue their games generate.
New capabilities for LAND owners
Eventually, LAND owners will gain the ability to host and curate games made by other creators, allowing them to earn from curation and traffic. Owners will have the authority to set themes, update commercial requirements, and choose which creators can build on their LAND, subject to The Sandbox’s platform rules and applicable terms. This expansion will enable LAND owners to fund, market, and support specific games, effectively allowing them to operate their own digital publishing businesses.
Map upgrades on the horizon
As part of the updates, The Sandbox plans to rebuild its Map in isometric 3D, offering a more detailed view from broad to micro levels. Each LAND will reflect its identity through its theme and connected experiences, enhancing user engagement and exploration.
Rollout timeline and participation
The first changes to LAND utility will begin with the public launch of The Sandbox Studio in Q4 2026, followed by incremental updates through 2027. The Sandbox has opened a beta for users to join the Studio and participate in an early August game jam.
Current LAND statistics
There are currently 166,464 LANDS represented as NFTs, with over 20,000 LAND owners worldwide. Every published game or experience will remain accessible from each LAND, providing a continuous avenue for user engagement within the platform.
“These updates are designed to enhance the experience of creators and players alike,” The Sandbox said.
