Our verdict on Ragnarok Landverse

Ragnarok Landverse is less a new fantasy world than a licensed Web3 re-skin of Ragnarok Online, the Korean MMORPG Gravity has run since 2002. The blockchain layer comes from Maxion under the Zentry umbrella, and the current Ronin build — Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis — held its grand launch in March 2025 after an earlier soft launch on a different chain. It is free to play on PC and mobile.

What works is the foundation. Two decades of class design, party grinding and card-drop loot arrive largely intact, and the sprite art still reads clearly on a small screen. Ronin keeps transaction friction low, and the tokens and land NFTs sit alongside the game rather than gating entry.

What does not work is the "Landverse" part, which is thinner than the name suggests. Genesis Land was a 1,000-piece mint whose function is buffs and upgrade crafting through an in-game merchant NPC — an ownership layer bolted onto an economy that still runs mostly on mining, stamina timers and shop items. Scarcity, not land, is doing the work.

It suits lapsed Ragnarok players who want the old grind with a cash-out valve, and Ronin regulars used to seasonal economies. Anyone expecting a modern MMORPG built from scratch will not find one here.
