The Sandbox opens Discord line to LAND owners as Studio nears public launch

The Sandbox is asking its LAND owners what they want from The Sandbox Studio before the tool goes public.

Sebastien Borget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox, called on SAND holders and all LAND owners to join an open conversation on Discord, saying the teams behind the Studio want direct feedback as they prepare its public release.

The outreach comes as demand for the tool runs well ahead of access. The Sandbox says more than 12,000 people have applied to test The Sandbox Studio within a month of its debut. Only about 30 creators have been let in.

What the Studio does

The Sandbox launched the Studio on June 9. It’s an AI-native game engine that turns a written description into a playable, live multiplayer game in the browser. Type what the game should be, and the engine builds it.

The resulting games can run across browser, mobile and desktop. The Sandbox plans later integration with Telegram and Steam.

The company says more than 400 studios and thousands of games fed the tool’s development, meaning its templates and workflows draw on real player behavior and retention data rather than design theory.

A deliberately small alpha

The tester pool is small by design. The current group includes builders experienced with Roblox, Unity and Unreal Engine, alongside developers already working with AI coding tools such as Cursor, OpenAI Codex and Claude Code.

The Sandbox says the narrow access has let its team give direct support, run small workshops and answer feedback within days instead of waiting on a longer development cycle. It plans to admit up to 10 more creators each week.

A closed Alpha Creator Game Jam is serving as the first real production test. The competition runs from July 2 through July 31 with a $5,000 prize pool, and winners will be announced Aug. 7 after entries are judged on creativity, execution and gameplay.

A recent engine update reworked the editor, software development kit, asset pipeline and application programming interfaces. Creators can now reorganize project assets without manually repairing scene references or actor links.

October target

The Studio Engine roadmap points to a public launch in October, adding multiplayer, monetization, more than 10 genre templates and kits, asset and skill collections, and AI-first creation. The timing is signaled rather than fixed.

The pitch to LAND owners rests on distribution. Self-published, creator-built games would give the platform a deeper library of open experiences and shift its public identity toward user-generated content, a direction Borget has flagged for more than a year.

Background

The Sandbox first launched in 2012 as a 2D mobile title and rebuilt around 3D voxel creation, no-code tools and token-based ownership in 2019. Payments in the new Studio run on $SAND.

The ecosystem Borget is now polling is sizable. As of 2025 he counted 6 million user wallets, 25,000 LAND owners and 60,000 NFT holders across the platform.

The Studio marks the company’s third creation-tool generation, and its bet is that closing the gap between an idea and a shipped game will pull that user base from playing into building. The Discord thread is where it starts taking the count.
