In Brief:
- The Plooshies shipped a fishing minigame for Plooshy Island five days after adding the feature to its roadmap, the project said in a post on X.
- The mode includes a catch mechanic, an inventory, rarity tiers and 14 fishing spots across the island. A daily rotation is planned but not live.
- It’s the first gameplay addition the team has publicized since Plooshy Island, the Abstract-based multiplayer sim that anchors the ecosystem, moved into players’ hands.
What shipped
The Plooshies added fishing to Plooshy Island, five days after the feature went on the project’s roadmap.
“5 days ago we put Fishing on the roadmap. Today it’s shipped,” the project said in a post on X.
5 days ago we put Fishing on the roadmap.
Today it's shipped.
Built from zero in Unity — not a pre-existing feature:
– real catch mechanic + inventory
– rarity tiers (yes, a legendary lobster )
– 14 spots across the island
– daily rotation on the way
Core works — minigame
The mode ships with a catch mechanic and an inventory system, rarity tiers for what players pull out of the water, and 14 fishing spots spread across the island. One of the rarity payoffs is a legendary lobster.
A daily rotation is planned. The Plooshies described it as “on the way,” which puts it outside this release.
Built in Unity
The team said it wrote the minigame from scratch rather than switching on something already in the build. The feature was “Built from zero in Unity,” the project said, and “not a pre-existing feature.”
That distinction matters for a five-day turnaround. Roadmap items in web3 gaming often arrive as toggled-on content that was already sitting in the client, and the claim here is that fishing wasn’t.
The Plooshies also flagged the release as unfinished at the edges. The post said the “Core works,” describing it as a minigame rather than a full system.
Where fishing fits
Plooshy Island is the center of the ecosystem, a browser-based multiplayer life sim built on Abstract. Its loop borrows from Animal Crossing, with quests, challenges and rewards, while the building system takes after The Sims. Players explore, visit other players’ houses and complete quests without paying to enter.
Fishing slots into that loop as a repeatable activity. The island already runs on Plooshy Points, the off-chain reward players earn through gameplay and community activity, which convert into $CUDDLE Coin, the in-game currency tied to progression and utility. The Plooshies didn’t say in the post whether catches feed either system.
Housing sits underneath all of it. Plooshy Houses was the first NFT collection on Abstract, capped at 454. Homeowners can mine Plooshy Crystals beneath their property after buying a Crystal Amplifier to spawn them, and they can charge other players an entry fee to mine, which creates a player-set market. The house shell isn’t customizable because the walls and roof are the static NFT that trades on marketplaces including OpenSea. Interiors are open.
Players who don’t buy a house can take a room in one of three apartment buildings. Apartments are shared, hotel style, and don’t come with private gardens.
Background
The Plooshies launched in March 2023 on Ethereum as a collection of 3,333 rigged and animated 3D models built from 11 characters. The project later moved to Abstract, where it now runs a set of casual browser and mobile games rather than a single title.
More than 10,000 players came through the first prototype in 2023. Beta testing followed in June 2025, ahead of a browser multiplayer launch the team rebuilt from the ground up.
Plooshy Pileup came first on Abstract, a match-3 puzzle game with 100 levels across 10 themed worlds. The story follows Penelope, a red panda searching for her missing brother. It runs a Solo Adventure mode, Play2Win tournaments and a Daily Challenge that can award NFT-based Plooshy Apartments.
Timelines have moved more than once. The project signaled its move to Abstract in August 2024 with Plooshy Island and the CUDDLE token slated for the first quarter of 2025, then reset the island’s target to the first quarter of 2026.
Neither Pileup nor the island requires an NFT. Holding a Plooshy unlocks extra content and benefits, and the games stay open to everyone else.
