The new EA football game is live right now. Whether you can play it depends entirely on how much you spent.
EA Sports FC 27 has launched, but only for the people who bought the Ultimate Edition at €99.99. That edition buys early access, the base game and a pile of extras. Everybody else waits until September 25th for the wide release, when physical copies and the standard digital edition land.
It’s the same staggered rollout the series has run for years now. Pay the premium, play first. Don’t, and you watch other people play first on streams for the better part of a week.
What €99.99 actually buys you
The Ultimate Edition list is long. It includes 6,000 FC Points spread over 3 months, an FUT Player Evo slot, 5 Manager Live Challenge Creation Slots, and a 5-Star Senior Scout in Manager Career. There’s also the Season 1 Premium Pass and a Career Dynamic OVR Pre-season Boost.
Two of the bonuses point backward rather than forward: an FUT 93+ OVR ICON Player Item (untradeable) for FC 26, and an FUT Player Dribbling Evo, also for FC 26. Both of those are for a game sold separately.
The numbers behind the pitch
EA’s own description of the game leans hard on scale. “EA SPORTS FC 27 welcomes you to The World’s Game, offering you greater control in every mode and an authentic football experience. Play with over 21,000 players, choose from 800+ clubs and national teams, and experience the action in 130+ stadiums and 35+ leagues from around the globe.”
Over 21,000 players. That’s the headline figure, and it’s the kind of number that only means something once you’re three hours into scrolling a transfer list at 2 a.m.
The Grounds is PlayStation 5 only
The biggest structural addition this year comes with an asterisk. The Grounds is described as “a social football hub where the streets meet the pitch (exclusive to PlayStation 5). From Kickabout and 1v1 matches to collaborating with friends in Clubs, connect with established football mentors, sharpen your skills, and express yourself on and off the pitch.”
If you’re on Xbox, PC or Switch, that mode isn’t coming to you. Worth knowing before you pick a platform.
On the pitch itself, EA promises “greater control across every game mode with smoother, more realistic gameplay, featuring dynamic corners, improved attacking movement, manual defending designed for competitive play, and further innovations inspired by the community.” Manual defending built for competitive play is the line that’ll get the most argument out of the FUT crowd.
Career mode gets the rework
Manager Career is where the more interesting change sits. The Transfer Market has been redesigned around “realistic player valuations and active bidding from clubs,” and negotiations now include performance and buy-back clauses. Dynamic OVR reflects a player’s form, morale and physical condition at every club.
So your wonderkid’s rating isn’t fixed anymore. It moves with how he’s doing and how he’s feeling, at whatever club he’s at.
Football Ultimate Team gets the FUT Gallery, a way to display favorite Player Items, raise your Gallery Level and earn rewards. EA frames it as shaping “your identity as a collector” across the season. A display case for the cards you pulled, essentially.
Where and how much
The game launches on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The standard edition runs €79.99 on PlayStation and Xbox, and €69.99 on PC and Switch.
That’s a €30 gap between the cheapest way in and the version that’s playable today. Nine full days of FUT market movement, and the people who paid it are already building squads while the standard edition buyers refresh a store page.
September 25th, then. Two prices, one game, and a week of highlight clips you’ll have to watch instead of play.
