Etherscape
What is Etherscape?
Etherscape (styled The Etherscape) is a multiplayer online rogue-lite action RPG built on the Enjin Blockchain by independent developer Sam Bayless. It is free to play and distributed through the Epic Games Store, with the project's whitepaper listing Windows, macOS and Android as supported platforms. The game has been in alpha development, and its crypto layer is used for item ownership rather than as a paywall: playing costs nothing, and minting items in-game does not require gas or transaction fees.
How to play Etherscape
Players take the role of an Etherborn, a character whose soul outlives its body. Death is permanent โ any item that is not Etherbound is lost, and the soul returns in a new body, at which point you select a new class. Classes differ in abilities, statistics and usable item types; several are available from the start, while others unlock only by acquiring specific NFT items. Loot, maps, dungeons and quests all carry procedural elements, so no two runs are identical. The stated design pillars are perma-death tension, randomized loot strong enough to change how you play, horizontal progression, and always-on multiplayer that rewards teaming up. Harder areas drop better rewards, which makes taking your best gear into them a deliberate gamble.
Etherscape tokenomics & earning
Item NFTs are minted by players, not sold by the studio. The Etherforge, an in-game crafting station, converts a Rare, Epic or Legendary item into an Etherbound item using rare resources plus an amount of Enjin Coin scaled to the item's rarity; the result is minted to the player's Enjin Wallet and can be traded on NFT.io. Artifacts are extremely rare items that are always Etherbound, with copies capped on-chain. Etherbound items survive death, but dying with one equipped puts it into stasis for a level-scaled cooldown, clearable early with gems from the Underworld Dealer. Etherscape also issues the Imperial Sovereign, a fungible governance token earned through quests and play where one token equals one vote, and routes a share of in-game revenue into a community wallet used for weekly player rewards.
