The board game was YGG Play’s first internally developed title and, for a stretch of 2025, the most commercially successful thing Yield Guild Games had built. It launched May 23, 2025 on Abstract, developed by Hype Reel, with Pudgy Penguins characters and a $10 million prize pool in YGG tokens.
What players had to do before the cutoff
Purchases and platform mission systems for LOL Land and Waifu Sweeper were switched off starting 3 p.m. Singapore time on July 9. July 31 was the last day of platform support, and players were told to unstake $LOL inside the game app and manually redeem in-game points for $YGG before the deadline.
Balances left unprocessed get converted automatically and distributed to associated wallets following a snapshot taken on the cutoff date. No manual support is available after that.
The yggplay.fun site, the launchpad at app.yggplay.fun and the Community Missions page all shut down alongside the games.
The revenue arc
LOL Land’s decline is legible in YGG’s own reporting. The game crossed $4.5 million in lifetime revenue in autumn 2025, $2.4 million of it in the preceding 30 days. It drew more than 630,000 monthly users on Abstract in July 2025 and $3.1 million in revenue that month.
By the first quarter of 2026, LOL Land contributed $563,599 against a lifetime total of $8.59 million. All of YGG Play brought in just over $876,000 in the quarter. Lifetime revenue across the unit passed $9 million by the end of Q1, with nine games signed.
Dizon has said the headline numbers obscure the shape of the curve. Revenue peaked in October 2025.
Why YGG pulled the plug
YGG announced the sunset on July 6, saying YGG Play “cannot be commercially sustainable” in a prolonged crypto downturn paired with a video game publishing market it called similarly brutal. The company said the Oct. 10 crash, which wiped out more than $19 billion in leveraged positions inside 24 hours, “fundamentally altered retail market psychology” and drained the liquidity its casual degen audience ran on.
“Sunsetting YGG Play is a heavy decision, but it is a market decision, not a product decision,” Dizon said.
He declined to read the closure as a verdict on the sector, calling it “specific to our circumstances” and pointing to Axie, Gigaverse and OnChain Heroes as counterexamples.
The 35 affected employees receive eight additional weeks of pay plus help finding new roles. The cuts add to more than 5,000 crypto industry job losses this year.
What survives
GIGACHADBAT and Ragnarok Breaker keep running, with live service handed back to Delabs Games and Planetarium Labs respectively and the transition finished by Aug. 1. Both are getting new token redemption processes.
The 2026 YGG Play Summit is canceled. It had been booked for Manila on Nov. 19 to 22, after a 2025 edition that drew more than 5,600 attendees.
The pivot
YGG is redirecting staff and capital toward selling anonymized gaming datasets to AI labs training world models, with applications the company has flagged in robotics and in-game agents. It reported a $20.6 million treasury as of Q1 2026 and said the restructuring extends runway to roughly four years. An AI Game Jam and a platform called Vibecode.Game went live in mid-July.
The YGG token is down about 84% over the past year and roughly 99.8% from its 2021 peak of $11.17. LOL Land’s own token fared worse. $LOL debuted on the YGG Play Launchpad with a contribution window from Oct. 29 to 31 and began trading Nov. 1 on decentralized exchanges only. Recent pricing put it near $0.00056, on about $105 of trading volume in 24 hours.
