Milestone in game development
Nexpace and Verse8 are celebrating a successful run of the MapleStory Vibe Camp, concluding with 693 game submissions. The event marked a departure from traditional hackathons, emphasizing the use of official MapleStory IP.
Out of the submitted games, 435 met content standards and are now live. The camp saw participation from 29,015 players across 88,037 play sessions. Among these, participants submitted 213,818 AI prompts, highlighting user engagement.
Utilization of IP
Nexpace emphasized the project’s scale, noting the use of 341,253 unique official MapleStory assets, generating 1.4 million asset-to-project connections. Each project averaged 434 assets, providing builders with a rich groundwork for innovation.
“These were not generic games with a MapleStory logo attached,” the Nexpace Medium post noted. Builders utilized original monsters, skills, maps, NPCs, and sound in ways the franchise hasn’t explored in its 23-year history.
Community and futures
Post-event, 1,250 active builders are working on 2,998 projects as part of the MSU 2.0 initiative. The continued engagement attests to the community’s investment in the MapleStory ecosystem.
“When the people who hold the memories get the means of production, the IP grows in directions its owner would not have planned, and that is exactly the point of opening our ecosystem,” said a Nexpace representative.
The games are available for play at MSU Space, where community voting is now live.
