Three days. That’s how long it took Marvel's Wolverine to pass Death Stranding 2’s entire sales run on PS5.
The numbers come from analytics firm Alinea Analytics, which released an image estimating that the new Insomniac Games title moved 1.9 million copies in the three days after its September 15 launch, pulling in $130 million in revenue.
Death Stranding 2, the Kojima Productions game, is estimated to have sold 1.8 million copies on PS5 and generated roughly $129 million. Wolverine cleared both marks before its first weekend was over.
Pre-orders did the heavy lifting
A million of those 1.9 million copies were pre-launch digital pre-orders, according to Alinea. Physical sales made up 22.9% of the revenue.
And the firm’s post spells out what these estimates don’t capture: “As always, these estimates don’t include unsold retail copies, which publishers often report in their sold-in…”
That distinction matters. Sold-through means copies in players’ hands, not copies sitting on store shelves waiting for a publisher to count them.
Sony’s biggest new game of the year, by this count
Alinea also puts Wolverine ahead of every other new PlayStation Studios release of 2026. That includes Saros, Marathon and Marvel Tokon, all of which the firm says it has now overtaken commercially.
Marathon and Saros both had their moments this year. Neither, per this data, came close to a $130 million opening.
Don’t treat this as gospel yet
Here’s the caveat you should carry with you: neither Sony nor Insomniac Games has said a word about Wolverine’s sales. Everything above is Alinea’s estimate, not an official figure.
Third-party trackers are often close. They’re also sometimes off, and the gap between 1.8 million and 1.9 million is thin enough that a small revision could change the headline.
An official picture will likely arrive in the coming days. Until then, the tracker’s chart is the only scoreboard, and it has Logan on top.
