Creator start guide

Game Maker, VoxEdit, Experiences and Assets in plain words, with official links.

No login

A plain-words start guide for creating in The Sandbox: what Game Maker and VoxEdit do, the order to learn them in, and what publishing on LAND needs. Everything is taken from the official Sandbox docs (read 30 Oct 2026) and linked, and we state no earnings figures because the docs give none.

Short and honest: what the two creator tools are, the order to learn them in, and what publishing needs. All facts come from the official Sandbox docs, read 30 Oct 2026. The docs change, so open the linked page before you decide anything.

Game Maker Experiences

A no-code tool for building Experiences, the games and places players visit. The docs say the no-code software is free to download and use to create Assets and Experiences.

  • An Experience can be shared for free through its own Experience page, and players can find it in the Game Maker Gallery.
  • An Experience can also be published onto your LAND. Players then press PLAY on its page and enter directly.
  • Its size is locked once created. The docs call 2x2 LAND the maximum recommended size for the best performance.

Beginner series (1 hour) Publishing

VoxEdit Assets

The voxel modelling tool for creating Assets: characters, props, buildings and equipment that Experiences use. The docs list tutorials, an asset guide and art techniques, and describe uploading finished assets to Workspaces.

  • Scale: one block is one cubic metre and 32 x 32 x 32 voxels, so plan an asset's size in blocks first.
  • Assets can be sold on the Sandbox Marketplace, priced in SAND (see the earnings calculator for the documented split).

A sensible order

  1. Play first. Open a few Experiences from the Game Maker Gallery and note what makes them work.
  2. Learn Game Maker. Follow the one-hour beginner series, then make a small Experience that fits in one LAND.
  3. Share it free. Publish an Experience page. You need no LAND for this, so you learn how players react before you spend anything.
  4. Add assets. Learn VoxEdit when you hit something you cannot build from existing assets. Check the scale rules first.
  5. Then think about LAND. Publishing onto LAND is optional, and anything bigger than 1x1 needs an Estate. Use the size guide and the ROI calculator with your own numbers.
  6. Look for money last. Creator contests and Marketplace sales exist, but earnings are not guaranteed. The docs give no average income, and neither do we.
