Sky Mavix revives AOC redemption for Origin Axies
Sky Mavix is set to reintroduce the redemption of Atia Original Crystals (AOC) for minting Origin Axies. This follow-up comes after years of unused AOC, dating back to the original Axie Infinity presale in 2018.
Initially, AOC served as referral tokens, allowing participants to exchange five tokens for a new Origin Axie. While this redemption mechanic eventually faded, 1,375 unused AOC were migrated from Ethereum to Ronin in January 2024. Following the renaming to Atia Original Crystals, these holders can now redeem them for Axies.
Sky Mavix announced that the AOC redemption will commence “soon” via App.Axie. For each five AOC redeemed, users can mint one Origin Axie, with the potential to roll a Mystic Axie.
Minting an Origin is no ordinary process. Each Axie consists of six body parts, with every part having a 7% chance to be Mystic. This translates to a 35.3% chance of an Origin receiving at least one Mystic part. Statistically, around 97 of the expected 275 Axies could feature at least one Mystic part.
Mystic Axies are deemed highly desirable because their parts cannot come from standard breeding; they are exclusive to the Origin creation process. Current market data shows fewer than 1,500 Mystics exist, with prices climbing to a floor of approximately 3.34 ETH. The rise followed a sale of a Mystic for 2.9 ETH, which equates to about $5,500.
The total supply of Origins is capped at 4,088, originating from sales between February and April 2018. The return of AOC marks a significant chapter in the enduring history of Axie Infinity (official site). If all 1,375 AOC are redeemed, the influx of new Origins may further thrill collectors.
For the 37 wallets currently holding AOC NFTs, this news transforms five eight-year-old crystals into a potential lottery ticket for one of Axie Infinity‘s most valuable collectible classes.
